Meet our Staff

  • Derek Jacobsen
    Execuitive Director

    Derek Jacobsen has served as Executive Director of North Iowa Youth For Christ since 1989.  He is responsible for the overall leadership of NIYFC in the areas of vision and planning, resource development, staff management, and the Board of Directors.  In addition, Derek loves to teach and encourage others in the areas of leadership development and spiritual growth.

    Derek and his wife Laura, have been married since 1995, and have three wonderful kids: Tyler, Katie, & Hannah. 

  • Darwin Van Horn

    Franklin County  Area Director
    Darwin Van Horn has been involved in full-time youth ministry since 1999.  He joined the North Iowa Youth for Christ staff in 2003 as a Campus Life director.  In 2009 he helped launch Youth for Christ in Franklin County and currently serves as the Area Director.  He enjoys coordinating weekly club meetings, special events and trips, encouraging and counseling teens.  

  • John "Chap" Sellers
    Chaplin, State Training School

    John E. Sellers, better known as "Chap" is our North Iowa YFC contract Chaplain at the State Training School in Eldora, Iowa.  Chap Sellers has over 25 years of experience working with trouble youth and families in four states: Iowa, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.  He has a Master of Divinity Degree in Cross-Cultural Ministry from Columbia International University.

  • Nick Kmoch
    Middle School Director

    Nick Kmoch has served as a youth worker and a youth pastor in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa and currently serves as the Middle School Director for North Iowa Youth for Christ. He received his Bachelors Degree in Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies from North Central University in Minneapolis, MN. Nick  brings a unique blend of goofiness, creativity, and passion to the middle school students of Northern Iowa. 

  • Nathan Burchett
    High School Director

    Nathan is the Campus Life Director for High School.  He was born in Kansas and is one of 8 siblings.  Nathan Graduated high school in 2004 and attended Central Christian College of the Bible.  Nathan met and married his wife while attending Central and they have been married since 2008.  Nathan enjoys sports, working out, eating, and hanging out with his wife. 

  • Anita Neumann
    Ministry Intern

    Anita Neumann was born in Detmold, Germany. She is here serving as a YFC international german Intern and helps out with Middle and High School Campus Life! She will be serving with YFC till January 2012. 

    Anita likes to play volleyball and traveling in her freetime.

  • Lisa Hackmen
